From the Founders/Stateside Directors

Children’s Opportunity Foundation, directed by Gene and Cheryl Witte, began in 2005 with a desire to make a difference in the lives of orphans in India. We invite you to ask yourself this question? “What difference can I make in the life of an orphan child?"
In 1984, my college roommate, a native of India, sparked an interest within us for his country. In 1990 we had the privilege of meeting his brother in law, Chandrasekhar (Shekar) Eda. Shekar and his wife Irene were both born and raised in India. Shekar and Irene have been ministering in India faithfully since 1981.
In 1997, I spent three weeks in India teaching on the college campus where the Eda’s train young people for future ministry. While traveling throughout India, I was profoundly impacted by the plight of the orphan children that I saw.
God was continuing to do a work in our hearts and we found our whole family being drawn to the beautiful orphans of India. In November of 2003, we began working through all of the paperwork to adopt a little girl from India. Knowing there would be many children left behind without the possibility of ever being adopted into a family, we began the process of establishing an organization whose mission would be to meet the physical, spiritual, educational and social needs of orphans in India. In 2005, Children’s Opportunity was established as a {501 c 3} nonprofit organization.
We look forward to the future ministry God has in store for Children’s Opportunity Foundation. We know that the God who led us to this ministry will equip us to continue the work He has set before us. It is exciting to have a part in bringing hope to children who feel unwanted and alone.
As you look through our website we trust you will think about how you can join us in bringing hope to these children, you will be blessed as we have been.
Sincerely,
Gene & Cheryl Witte
